Black Stars forward Bernard Tekpetey has hailed the impact Jordan Ayew had on Ghana’s 2-1 win over Mali on Thursday in the 2026 World Cup qualifier in Bamako.

The Crystal Palace forward was brought on with just about 10 minutes to the end of the game when the result was tied at 1-1.

Jordan then created a big chance that Thomas Partey missed before scoring the winner in the fourth minute of added time, reacting to the game, Bernard Tekpetey, who was not called up for the game, said a player like Jordan should have started from minute one.

“Yesterday, we were not patient. When you play five-back, you need a striker who can hold onto the ball. The [Jordan Ayew] change had a big impact on the game,” he told Joy Sports.

Ghana will now host the Central African Republic on Monday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in their fourth match of the World Cup qualifiers.

Ghana sits second in Group I with six points after three games.
