Ghana’s High Soul pioneer returns with four live Highlife recordings. Out May 1, 2026.
Josh Blakk, Ghanaian singer, songwriter and producer, and originator of the High Soul sound, has announced HighLife Sunday Service (Live), a new EP dropping May 1, 2026 across all major streaming platforms. The announcement comes alongside a nomination for Best Male Vocal Performance at this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), one of Ghana’s most prestigious music honours.
HighLife Sunday Service (Live) is a four-track EP recorded live with no studio gloss. It captures the warmth of a room, the energy of live music, and the richness of Ghanaian Highlife. The four tracks, Runaway, OMW2 Africa, Edey Jorm and Magic In Me, each tell their own story. From street wisdom and the contradictions of love, through homecoming and everyday joy, to a closing declaration of self-belief rooted in culture.
“This EP is a Sunday Service. It’s not just music, it’s a gathering. Four live records that feel like a ceremony. Just the room, the music, and the truth.”
— Josh Blakk
The TGMA nomination reflects a strong year for Josh Blakk. In 2025, he released his full-length album Catch-22, which earned over 500,000 organic streams, and completed a 16-show European tour across Germany and the Netherlands, including a performance at the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg. He also performed at the residences of the German, Dutch and Israeli Ambassadors in Accra.
HighLife Sunday Service (Live) builds on a strong run of work from Josh Blakk. His High Soul sound, a fusion of Ghanaian Highlife with the depth of Soul music delivered in English, Twi and other languages, has drawn comparisons to Ebo Taylor and Pat Thomas while connecting with listeners familiar with artists like Asa. The EP is a return to roots, recorded live the way Highlife was always meant to be heard.
Highlights include OMW2 Africa, a homecoming anthem and love letter to the continent, and Magic In Me, a confidence closer built on the belief that your best bet is always yourself.
HighLife Sunday Service (Live) drops on Spotify, Apple Music, Audiomack, Boomplay and all major streaming platforms on May 1, 2026, distributed via Rainlabs under Universal Music.
