In December last year, a total of 14,135 road crashes were reported, involving 23,998 vehicles and 2,559 pedestrian knockdowns.

These crashes resulted in the death of 2,276 persons, according to statistics from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD).

These occurrences highlight the urgent need for road safety education and driving tips.

In light of this, Kosi Dargbey, CEO and Founder of IGarage provided some road safety tips on how to defensively drive to salvage road crashes.

Check out these steps as initial resolution when you experience vehicle overheating

Speaking on TV3’s New Day on March 12, Kosi Dargbey explained the five types of road drivers motorists and pedestrians must take notice of.

“We have about five types of drivers on the road. The one who sits in the car and that is when he wants to make phone calls. So, he is always destructed either internally or externally. We have the timid drivers who just got out of driving school. They are not able to speed, always driving slowly. They are on the road and but not moving and breaking anyhow.

“We have the aggressors who always want to swing lanes anyhow. They want to jump in front of everybody. We also have the speeders who always want to be ahead on highways. When they see a vehicle ahead of them their focus is to pass the vehicles. And we also have the good or defensive drivers who avoid all these other drivers, anticipates the hazard on the road and takes action,” he explained.

How to defensively drive to avoid road hazards

Mr. Kosi further mentioned three defensive driving techniques to ensure alertness and further prevent road crashes.

“For defensive driving, you must be aware of the hazards on the road, be able to spot or anticipate the road hazards and take immediate actions to prevent the hazards from occurring. Defensive driving is like journey management and start from your home. Make sure your vehicle is without any issue from home.”

In addition, he said defensive drivers must also possess some reasonable level of skills including how to change car tyres, etc.
