The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has indefinitely postponed its reopening for the 2026/2027 academic year, which was originally scheduled for October 13, 2026.
The decision was announced in a press release issued by the University Management on October 9, 2026, citing the ongoing strike action by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and its impact on the university’s effective operations and administration.
According to the statement, the postponement has become necessary due to the disruption caused by the industrial action, which has affected the smooth running of the university’s administrative activities.
“The University Management wishes to inform students, parents/guardians, and the public that the re-opening of the University for the 2026/2027 Academic Year, originally scheduled for 13th October 2026, has been postponed indefinitely,” the statement said.
The university has consequently advised students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders to take note of the development and await further communication on a revised reopening date.
Management assured the university community that updates on the new reopening date would be communicated in due course.
The statement was signed by Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, University Relations Officer at KNUST, who expressed management’s regret over any inconvenience the postponement might cause and appealed for the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders.
The indefinite postponement comes as the university continues to grapple with the effects of the ongoing industrial action by GAUA, with the resumption of academic activities now dependent on further developments and an official announcement from management.
