Ghana’s Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, has admitted that it was difficult to watch the Black Stars suffer a 4-2 defeat by The Gambia in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.Ghana made a disappointing start to their qualifying campaign, losing their opening two matches without picking up a point. The Black Stars began with a 2-0 defeat by Ivory Coast in Bouak before surrendering a two-goal lead to lose 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium. The back-to-back losses have left Ghana bottom of Group C and facing an uphill task in their bid to qualify for the tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The poor start also led to the departure of head coach Carlos Queiroz, who left his position following the team’s disappointing results.Reflecting on Ghana’s defeat by The Gambia, Adams, who is also the Member of Parliament for Buem, said the result was difficult to accept.”I must admit that nobody would want to be in my situation when the Black Stars played against The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium,” he told Asempa FM.”It was difficult to watch the team lose. I could not believe what happened, but I am convinced the team will qualify for the AFCON tournament,” he added.Ghana will now turn their attention to next month’s double-header against Somalia as they seek to revive their qualification hopes. The Black Stars are scheduled to play both matches at the Accra Sports Stadium on 11 and 14 November. The team will be guided by an interim technical team, following an announcement by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
