Asante Kotoko ascended to the top of the Ghana Premier League standings after securing a crucial 1-0 win over Accra Lions at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Sunday.

Fresh off a midweek victory against Nsotreman in an outstanding Week 2 fixture, the Porcupine Warriors extended their winning streak with Albert Amoah’s decisive goal early in the second half. Amoah slotted home Dauda Saaka’s expertly delivered cross in the 48th minute to give Kotoko the vital edge.

The match saw Kotoko dominate, creating numerous chances and registering four shots on target. Accra Lions, in contrast, posed little threat, troubling the Kotoko goalkeeper only twice throughout the game. Despite the narrow scoreline, Kotoko’s control was evident, with their solid defense securing a clean sheet.

With this win, Kotoko sit at the summit of the league table, level on points with Bibiani Gold Stars but leading on goal difference. Former champions Medeama are close behind with 10 points.

The Porcupine Warriors will now prepare to face Legon Cities, looking to maintain their position at the top. Meanwhile, Accra Lions will aim to bounce back in their next match against Berekum Chelsea after a challenging start to the season.

Nations FC stunned Dreams FC while Karela held champions FC Samartex. Vision FC clinched victory over fellow debutants Baske Holy Stars to continue their impressive form.
