Asante Kotoko returned to winning ways in the Ghana Premier League with a 2-1 victory over Samartex at Samreboi on Saturday in a highly competitive match.

The Porcupine Warriors took control of the game in the first half, heading into the break with a comfortable two-goal lead, thanks to strikes from Enock Morrison and Rocky Dwamena in the 32nd and 41st minutes, respectively.

Despite a strong second-half performance by Samartex, who pulled one back late in the game, Kotoko managed to hold on for the win, lifting them up to third place in the league standings. The win was a much-needed boost for the club after losing to fierce rivals Hearts of Oak last time.

Meanwhile, in another game played on Saturday, Tamale City secured a vital 3-1 home win against Dreams FC to boost their survival hopes.

Sampson Eduku scored a brace for the home side, with Nafiu Sulemana adding a third to secure the win at the Aliu Mahama Stadium. Dreams FC’s only goal came through Ali Huzaf’s penalty in the second half, but it proved to be a mere consolation for the visitors.

The win sees Tamale City move up to 16th place, just one point away from safety, while Dreams FC have dropped to 11th place with 27 points after 22 matches played.
