The member of parliament for Effutu Constituency and Majority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin says he supports initiatives aimed at making investment by the Ghanaian worker viable.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin made this remark in an interview with a private media station on the ongoing conversation about the sale of a 60% stake in Social Security and National Investment Trust, (SSNIT) in some hotels to the Minister of Food And Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong’s Rock City Hotel.
He said, that if SSNIT decides to offload either 20% or more of its shares or get into a management contract with an entity for a profit sharing, it does that in the best interest of the Ghanaian worker who has invested in SSNIT.
The Lawmaker however expressed dissatisfaction to some attitudes of individuals towards state projects. He said “we are were we are as a nation due to attitudes which do not promote and protect state investments”.
He recounted his experience at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, stating the facility is in “a bad state”.
The Majority Leader however called on the management of SSNIT to as a matter of importance come out with the agreement between SSNIT and the interested entity and explain the details to the public for the purpose of transparency.
He said, “SSNIT, come out, make the document available. Speak to it. They can not be dodging. This is not a political matter and I cannot speak to it politically, condemn it or commend it. SSNIT must come out and even not only this decision, look at all investments that are failing and explain it to the public”, he stressed.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin again blamed SSNIT for its lack of communication about the contractual agreement between the entities. He said,” SSNIT should know that, it’s a public institution, it is an investment hub, a custodian of people’s money. So when we are dealing with the people’s funds and the public, you should be proactive with communication, ”he added.
