Former Spain and Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has expressed his desire to manage a team in the Premier League, but confirmed that he has not yet received any offers from English clubs.
Enrique, who has been without a job since leaving Spain after their elimination from the 2022 World Cup, has recently been linked with Tottenham Hotspur following the departure of Antonio Conte this week.
“I follow the Premier League above all because I would like to work in England,” said Enrique in an interview with Cadena Ser radio on Wednesday. “I wouldn’t go to just any team, but to one that has the potential to achieve important things, which narrows down the options considerably. However, I don’t want to get my hopes up too high because there are many candidates vying for those positions.”
Although the 52-year-old coach admitted his desire to work in the Premier League, he also clarified that he is in no rush to get back into management. He dismissed rumours that he has been offered the vacant Brazil job, but did not rule out taking on another national team role.
“I am fortunate that my personal life fulfils me,” he said. “If it takes a while longer for offers to arrive, then so be it. I would only go to a team with possibilities. However, this doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t work in Spain. There are several national teams that are looking for a manager, but I don’t think I have the profile to lead a national team like Brazil.”
Enrique also revealed that he has had offers from national teams but not from clubs, and that he would consider taking on a national team role if it was a “very, very powerful” team.
The former Celta Vigo and Roma coach enjoyed a successful three-year stint at Barcelona, winning the Champions League, La Liga title and the Copa del Rey in his first season in charge. He went on to win La Liga once more and the Copa on two more occasions.
