Former President John Dramani Mahama has joined the global outpouring of grief following the reported passing of Pope Francis.

In a heartfelt message shared on Facebook, he expressed his condolences to the Roman Catholic Church and Catholics across Ghana and the world.

“The world woke up to the sad news of Pope Francis’ passing. On behalf of my family and the people of Ghana, I extend heartfelt condolences to the Roman Catholic Church and all Catholic faithful in Ghana during this time of profound grief,” the president wrote.

Mahama also reflected on a memorable personal encounter with the late Pope, recalling a visit to the Vatican with his wife, Lordina Mahama.

“I fondly remember visiting the Vatican with my wife, Lordina, where we had the distinct honour of meeting Pope Francis,” he said.

He paid tribute to the Pope’s legacy, describing him as a global symbol of compassion, humility, and justice.

“His legacy of compassion, humility, and commitment to social justice will continue to inspire generations. His leadership and advocacy for the poor and marginalised resonate deeply. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” Mr. Mahama added.
