Manchester United rallied from a two-goal deficit to secure a 3-2 victory against 10-man Nottingham Forest in a sensational match at Old Trafford on Saturday.
United found themselves trailing by two goals within the first four minutes due to a lacklustre start that led to goals from Taiwo Awoniyi and Willy Boly.
Christian Eriksen kick-started United’s revival by slotting in a goal from Marcus Rashford’s precise low cross. Casemiro, who had earlier missed a golden opportunity, drew United level by bundling in Bruno Fernandes’ header across the goal, following an exquisite assist from Rashford.
United’s manager, Ten Hag, had emphasised Fernandes’ inspirational qualities as a captain before the match, and the Portuguese playmaker demonstrated his leadership on the field as he spearheaded the host’s pursuit of a victory.
Nottingham Forest faced further setbacks when their captain, Joe Worrall, received a red card for a foul on Fernandes at the edge of the area in the second half. Although United couldn’t capitalise on the subsequent free-kick, Fernandes remained composed, netting the winner 14 minutes from time after Danilo tripped Rashford.
