Black Satellites head coach Maxwell Konadu believes an early red card prevented Ghana from claiming all three points in Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Burkina Faso at the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship.The Black Satellites battled back from behind to secure a point, but Konadu insisted the dismissal altered the course of the game.”We knew we could beat this team. We had that confidence, but the red card distracted us,” Konadu said after the match.Despite the numerical disadvantage, the Ghana coach was pleased with his team’s attacking display.”We changed from a 4-3-3 to a 3-5-1, and that created a lot of scoring opportunities. The ball just wouldn’t enter the net.”Konadu explained that the sending-off forced him to reshuffle his team, with a centre-back deployed in midfield after changes to both the goalkeeper and midfield positions.”We brought the centre-back to manage the defensive midfield position for us, and I think he did really well. Going forward, we will think about that.”He also praised his substitutes, saying they injected fresh energy into the attack.”Kelvin [Nkrumah] exploited the wide areas very well, and Latif [Abdul] and [Edmund] Amakye came on and created chances, but unfortunately we couldn’t get the winning goal.”Although Burkina Faso entered the match on the back of a 3-1 victory in their opening fixture, Konadu believes Ghana controlled proceedings.”They won their first game 3-1, but today they couldn’t come to the party. We played the game and created so many chances.”The Black Satellites now face Togo in their final group match, where Konadu is determined to end the tournament on a winning note.”We are preparing for the AFCON, but we want to win. We just have to win at least one game before we leave here.”
