Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC have been drawn against DR Congo giants TP Mazembe in the first preliminary round of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League.
The draw, conducted at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters in Cairo on Wednesday, handed the Tarkwa-based club one of the toughest possible opponents in the opening stage of the competition.
Medeama will begin the two-legged tie at home, with the first leg set to be played at the TNA Stadium before they travel to Kinshasa for the decisive return fixture.
Should the Ghanaian champions progress, they will face either Tunisian heavyweights Club Africain or Malian side Djoliba AC in the second preliminary round as they seek a place in the lucrative group stage of Africa’s premier club competition.
The first preliminary round is scheduled to take place between 4-6 September for the first legs, with the return fixtures to be played from 11-13 September.
The second preliminary round will follow shortly afterwards, with the first-leg matches slated for 14-16 September and the return legs scheduled between 23-25 September.
Medeama will be hoping to make another impressive run in the CAF Champions League after earning the right to represent Ghana by winning the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title.
