Michael, the new musical biopic about Michael Jackson, has achieved the biggest opening weekend ever for a biographical film at the global box office.

The film, starring Jaafar Jackson as his uncle, has earned $217m worldwide since its release, surpassing previous record holders including Bohemian Rhapsody and Oppenheimer.

The film, backed by Jackson’s estate, uses his original vocals and focuses on his rise to global fame, with a strong emphasis on his musical career and family relationship with his father.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the production faced significant changes and costly reshoots after legal issues affected its original storyline, pushing its budget to around $200m.

While critics have given the film mixed reviews, audiences have responded far more positively, reflected in its strong box office performance and high viewer ratings.

The release continues a wider trend of successful musical biopics, which remain a reliable draw for cinemas worldwide.
