A midwife at Trust Mother and Child Hospital in Osu has been arrested in connection with an alleged child trafficking operation involving missing children and cash payments totalling GHS 55,000.
The suspect, identified as Lucinda Naomi Otchere, who reportedly serves as head of the hospital’s Maternity and Labour Ward, was arrested on May 13, 2026.
According to investigators, Otchere allegedly received a missing seven-year-old girl from another suspect, Janet Larbie, and reportedly paid GHS 20,000 to facilitate the transfer.
Police further allege that the midwife later paid an additional GHS 35,000 and instructed Larbie to send another victim, a five-year-old girl to a couple residing in Pokuase.
Investigators believe the alleged trafficking network may have been operating for a significant period.
The arrest follows a previous operation by the Central East Regional Police Command, which led to the arrest of six other suspects connected to the case.
