Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare says the Black Stars remain focused on improving ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite recent criticism and pressure surrounding the team.

The Hearts of Oak goalie is part of Ghana’s 28-man squad currently preparing for the tournament and is expected to battle for a place in the final squad after the international friendly against Wales on June 2.

Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup after qualifying for the tournament, which will be hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico next month.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.

Speaking ahead of the Wales game, Benjamin Asare admitted players must adapt quickly to the ideas of head coach Carlos Queiroz and his technical team.

“Every coach has their style and tactical play. What you were taught by your previous coach could be different, but as a player you need to follow the instructions and put in your best every time,” Asare said.

The goalkeeper also reacted to criticism following Ghana’s recent performances, insisting mistakes are part of football and the team must continue looking forward.

“Football, we have to accept that mistakes do happen, but that does not mean it is the end of it because there are a lot of matches ahead,” he added.

The Black Stars will open their World Cup campaign against Panama before facing England and Croatia as they hope to progress beyond the group stage after disappointing exits in 2014 and 2022.
