The West African faction of the Montessori Model of the United Nations (MMUN) launched its Ghanaian Chapter and its Council Members on December 23, 2023.

In a well-attended short ceremony, the Emissary of Education for MMUN West Africa, His Royal Highness, King Anumle Ayitey Oyanka I, expressed gratitude to the mother organisation for extending its wings to the sub-Saharan region of the African continent to also partake in and benefit from their impactful programs.

He mentioned that he has over the years monitored with keen interest, as a traditional leader and also an educational enthusiast, the proceedings of the Montessori Model of the United Nations, its scholarship projects, and exchange programs that allow students to share cultural experiences and traits in the midst of learning.

According to him, Ghana is very blessed with intelligent and brilliant kids, but the absence of enough scholarship programs has curtailed their exposure to the world. He tasked the newly inaugurated board members to work assiduously to make sure that strategic plans are put in place to achieve the mandate of the MMUN in Ghana.

King Oyanka further called on the Education Ministry and all other public and private educational stakeholders to come on board in order to make the vision of MMUN West Africa come to light. He also announced that the first congress of the organisation will be held in March 2024, in which over 200 students from West Africa are expected to partake in a fully funded scholarship.

Mr. Richard Flynn, a member and an Ambassador for MMUN West Africa, also called on all other nationals who have an interest in Montessori education to come on board and make the chapter a success.

The members of the board include Nii Offoli Tackie Yaboi (chairman), Richard Flynn (ambassador), Timothy Ablah Badzi, Jara Iddrisu, Witthy Ahorhu, Sam Johnson Mawuli, Michael Anaman, Nii Obli Okai Awuah, Acheampong Emmanuel, and Bright Adu.
