The Ministry of Health has justified Ghana’s resilience towards reproductive health services despite the challenges faced by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition (RHSC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Ghana has brought its members together to examine COVID-19’s impact on funding for reproductive health supplies and related markets and supply chains, drawing lessons from how the sector responded, and celebrating its unique resilience under the theme ‘Resilience’.
Speaking at the 2023 General Meeting of the Members Of The Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition, Dr Maureen Martey, Head of bilateral resource mobilization at the Ministry of Health, Ghana who represented the Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman Manu stated that Ghana has shown a lot of resilience in terms of service provision when we look at reproductive health during the Covid-19 times.
She said Ghana’s health service did not stop providing reproductive health services despite challenges of the COVID-19.
She said the Ghana Health Service is delighted to co-host the 2023 general meeting of the reproductive health supplies coalition because they have put Ghana on top of the map in terms of resilience in reproductive health services provision.
She said Ghana is committed to reproductive health services and has launched a comprehensive Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health and Nutrition Strategic Plan.
Dr Maureen Martey added that the logistics management information system has been linked to the Global Family Planning Visibility Analytic network (GFPVAN) which helps to have end-to-end visibility in terms of stock situation on family planning medicines.
The Director for the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition, Martyn Smith also admitted to the fact that Ghana is one of the African countries to benefit from the manufacturing of reproductive health medicine and there are steps to be taken before it will be considered by the Ghana government.
