Stephen Blewett, CEO of MTN Ghana, spearheaded a transformative initiative at Aburi Presbyterian Secondary Technical School, marking the beginning of construction for a pioneering container-based e-library.
This endeavor is part of MTN’s expansive 30 Days of Y’ello Care campaign, aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for rural and remote communities across Ghana.
During this year’s campaign, MTN Ghana plans to establish two state-of-the-art e-learning libraries equipped with computers, internet access, textbooks, and supplementary reading materials. The first library, slated for Aburi, will be completed by the campaign’s conclusion, with another set to follow in Sunyani, Bono region.
Addressing an assembly hall brimming with enthusiastic students, Blewett urged them to prioritize their studies, emphasizing their pivotal role as future leaders of Ghana and beyond. “The next great scientist, president, or CEO could be among you,” he proclaimed, underscoring the importance of dedication, hard work, and passion in achieving their aspirations. Blewett reaffirmed MTN’s commitment to nurturing future scientists and innovators by providing cutting-edge technology, asserting that technology is indispensable for building a prosperous future.
Joyce Appiah, headmistress of Aburi Presbyterian Secondary Technical School, expressed gratitude to MTN for selecting their institution for this transformative project, pledging full support for its successful implementation.
In addition to the e-library, MTN employee volunteers will establish a smart farm equipped with digital devices, complemented by a digital borehole under the ‘Quench and Connect’ initiative. This initiative aims to address water scarcity in schools while promoting digital literacy through workshops nationwide.
This year’s 30 Days of Y’ello Care theme, “Education for rural and remote communities,” underscores MTN Ghana’s commitment to bridging educational gaps across the country. The initiative aligns with the company’s broader mission to empower communities through sustainable development projects.
MTN Y’ello Care, an annual program across the MTN Group, allows employees to engage in meaningful volunteer projects, impacting millions of lives continent-wide since its inception in 2007. This year, in honor of MTN’s 30th anniversary, the campaign has been extended to 30 Days, highlighting its continued commitment to community development and empowerment.
