Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo has revealed that his style of play is very much inspired by former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan.

The Bournemouth winger was Ghana’s hero in the recent 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers as he climbed off the bench to score the only goal at the Baba Yara Stadium against Angola in Chris Hughton’s first game in charge of the national team.

Prior to the Semenyo’s goal at the Baba Yara, Ghana’s last goal against the Palancas Negras was scored by Asamoah Gyan in 2010 during the quarterfinals of the AFCON which was hosted by Angola.

Semenyo, who was excited for being the next to score against the same opponents after Gyan revealed that, he has been a big fan of the former Sunderland man since his glory days in major competitions for Ghana.

“I used to watch him when he came to AFCON competitions and the World Cup. He was such a big player and I dream to be exactly like him” Semenyo told GhanaWeb.

The 23-year-old who joined Bournemouth in the English Premier League during the January transfer window has yet to score having already played eight matches under coach Gary O’Neil.
