A new chapter has begun in the history of the Ashanti Kingdom following the official outdooring of Nana Ama Bonsu as the 15th Asantehemaa (Queen Mother).
The historic ceremony took place at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Monday, July 6, 2026, where the new Queen Mother was formally unveiled to the public amid traditional rites and celebrations.
Nana Ama Bonsu succeeds Nana Konadu Yiadom III, the 14th Asantehemaa, who passed away on August 7, 2025, bringing an end to a significant chapter in the leadership of the Ashanti Kingdom.
The public unveiling of Nana Ama Bonsu marks the beginning of a new era for the revered institution, with members of the royal family, traditional leaders, and scores of well-wishers gathering at the Manhyia Palace to witness the historic occasion.
The atmosphere at the palace was filled with excitement and anticipation as the announcement was made. Dressed in black and red traditional cloth, the crowd erupted into songs, cheers, and chants, warmly welcoming the new Asantehemaa with pride and joy.

The event reflected the deep cultural significance of the Asantehemaa, whose role remains central to the traditions, customs, and leadership structure of the Ashanti Kingdom. Her installation also symbolizes continuity within one of Ghana’s most respected traditional institutions.
As the 15th Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Bonsu is expected to uphold the values and responsibilities associated with the prestigious stool while working alongside the Asante Kingdom’s traditional leadership in preserving the customs and heritage of Asanteman.
Monday’s outdooring marks the official introduction of Nana Ama Bonsu to the people, ushering in a new phase in the history of the Ashanti Kingdom following the passing of her predecessor nearly a year ago.
