Ghanaian radio presenter Nana Romeo has called on the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to broaden its investigations into unexplained wealth among some young people, urging officials to look beyond formal complaints and pay closer attention to activities within communities.
His comments follow the recent extradition of Ghanaian national Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, to the United States, where he is facing charges related to an alleged $8 million romance scam case. However, Nana Romeo clarified that his remarks were not made because of the Abu Trica case, but rather reflect his concerns about a broader issue of unexplained wealth among some young people.
The media personality said some young individuals continue to acquire and drive high-end luxury vehicles despite having no clearly identifiable sources of income or legitimate businesses. He urged EOCO to investigate such cases, adding that taking the fight against financial crimes to the streets would help bring greater accountability and sanity to the country.
Nana Romeo also noted that some parents have used the lifestyles of such individuals as examples when advising their children, but warned that appearances can sometimes be misleading. He called for greater awareness and accountability to discourage young people from pursuing questionable means of acquiring wealth.
