Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged party supporters to maintain their pressure on the Electoral Commission (EC) for a forensic voter register audit.

Speaking at a protest in Accra on September 17, Nketia emphasized that the demonstration is merely the beginning of the party’s efforts to ensure electoral transparency.

Nketia warned that if the EC fails to act on the party’s demands, protests will escalate to the Commission’s district and constituency offices. “We are demanding our rights for a free and fair election.

We are warning them that today is just the beginning,” Nketia declared. “If they think that everybody will go to sleep after the demonstration, they are joking. We will fight and fight until the right thing is done.”

The NDC’s nationwide protest is taking place in all 16 regional capitals. Party members are presenting a petition to express concerns over what they allege is a bloated voter register with discrepancies.

In parallel, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader in Parliament, has indicated that the NDC will consider all available avenues to compel the EC to conduct a forensic audit.

Forson told TV3 during the demonstration that the party is prepared to recall Parliament from recess if necessary to address the issue. “If we have to recall Parliament, then we will,” he affirmed.

The ongoing protests underscore the NDC’s commitment to challenging the current electoral process and advocating for greater transparency ahead of the upcoming elections.
