The Nii Djan bi Amu family of Danchira, located in the Ga South Municipality, recently marked their annual Homowo festival in a peaceful yet distinctive manner.

This year’s celebration took on a different tone due to ongoing legal matters involving the Ga South Municipal Assembly and the four families of Danchira.

According to Nii Doudu, the acting chief of the Nii Djan bi Amu family, their approach to this year’s festival was influenced by a court case brought against them by the Ga South Assembly.

The court had also mandated a bond between the four families of Danchira, which led to a restrained observance of the festival, including the traditional sprinkling of “kpekpele,” a symbolic ritual performed during Homowo.

Despite a Supreme Court judgment affirming the Nii Djan bi Amu family as the rightful owners of Danchira, tensions remained high as the four families involved in the dispute disregarded the court order.

They went ahead with their own sprinkling of kpekpele, even encroaching on the Nii Djan bi Amu family’s premises.

However, the acting chief, along with his elders, managed to handle the provocation tactfully, preventing what could have escalated into a chaotic situation.

Nii Doudu emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, especially with the upcoming December elections, calling on all parties involved to exercise restraint and uphold the spirit of unity during this period.
