The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed prospective parliamentary aspirants, their agents and supporters to stop all campaign activities with immediate effect, warning that breaches could affect their eligibility to contest.

In a statement signed by its General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, on Sunday, October 11, the party said it had received complaints that some members were campaigning in various constituencies ahead of the official parliamentary selection process.

It said the activities contravened the party’s regulations and code of conduct, created an uneven playing field and undermined party unity and discipline.

The directive prohibits prospective aspirants and their supporters from mounting posters, billboards, banners and other campaign materials, as well as organising rallies, meetings with polling station executives or constituency tours to solicit support.

It also bans the distribution of items or other inducements to delegates and party members, alongside paid media and social media advertisements promoting a candidature.

The party further directed officers at polling station, electoral area, constituency, regional and national levels, as well as TESCON, to refrain from promoting any parliamentary aspirant on social media or facilitating premature campaign activities.

The NPP warned that anyone who failed to comply would face disciplinary action, which could affect their eligibility to contest.

It said the timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary selection process would be announced in due course.

Constituency and regional executives have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with the directive.
