The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) performance in the recent parliamentary elections in the Asuogyaman constituency has stirred significant controversy, with the party’s women’s organizer, Madam Juliana Akusika Nkegbe, directly attributing their defeat to Pius Enam Hadzide.
In a statement addressing the factors that led to the NPP’s loss, Madam Nkegbe leveled strong accusations against Mr. Hadzide, claiming that his actions had fractured the party’s unity and led to their electoral defeat.
She alleged that Mr. Hadzide orchestrated a series of divisive moves during the primaries, including bringing in individuals from the North Tongu and North Dayi constituencies to manipulate the electoral register. This, she claimed, was done with the support of the North Tongu women’s organizer and sidelined local Asuogyaman executives, causing resentment among party stakeholders.
“Pius Hadzide is the reason we lost,” Madam Nkegbe said emphatically. “It was as though we didn’t exist.”
She further criticized Mr. Hadzide for disregarding the majority of the constituency’s executives, accusing him of entering the election with a divided party, which alienated key stakeholders and contributed to the loss.
In the final count, the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, secured a decisive victory with 26,085 votes, representing 55.06%. Mr. Hadzide, the NPP’s candidate, trailed with 21,290 votes, or 44.94%.
