Ghanaian rap legend, Obrafour the rap sofor, has dragged American rapper Drake to court for sampling his song, Oye Ohene Remix without permission.
Drake used the popular ‘Killer Cat, blood, killer cut’ intro to the 2003 Obrafour featuring Tinny single ‘Oye Ohene’ remix in his single, Calling My Name’ off his ‘Honestly, Nevermind album,’
Obrafour and his legal representatives filed the suit in the United States District Court – Southern District of New York.
Per the statement of claim, Drake sought permission to use the ‘Oye Ohene remix’ intro from Obrafour and his team but never received a response.
A few days after the email seeking permission was sent, Drake released his ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ album with the sampled bit included despite Obrafour not giving out permission.
The Ghanaian music legend is therefore seeking $10m in damages.
