Olam Agri in Ghana marked Mother’s Day with a community outreach to HopeSetters Autism Center in Tema. Led by empOWer, the company’s women’s employee resource group, the visit reaffirmed Olam Agri’s commitment to inclusion, social impact, and community partnerships that support children and young adults with special needs.
During the engagement, empOWer representatives met with the Centre’s leadership to discuss autism awareness, developmental support, and the importance of building enabling environments for children and young adults.
Established to support individuals on the autism spectrum through specialised education and skills development, HopeSetters Autism Centre provides tailored learning and vocational programmes for 47 children and young adults across varying developmental stages.
Its holistic approach integrates structured learning, communication support systems, creative development, and employability training to build independence and foster long-term inclusion.
During the visit, the empOWer delegation interacted with students and staff across the Centre’s education and vocational units. The engagement offered firsthand insight into the innovative approaches used to support communication, learning, and life skills development.
The centre also showcased aspects of its vocational and entrepreneurship programme, which trains older students in practical skills such as carpentry, millinery, and textile craftsmanship, and connects them to paid employment opportunities.
As part of the engagement, empOWer presented a donation of Olam Agri products to support the centre and its community. The visit concluded with interactive activities between employees and students, reflecting the spirit of empathy, dignity, and shared connection that underpinned the initiative.
Speaking during the visit, Juliet Amuah, Vice President of empOWer, noted that the engagement formed part of the group’s broader commitment to supporting communities and advancing inclusion beyond the workplace.
“Mother’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate care, resilience, and the power of community. The work being done by HopeSetters Autism Center is deeply impactful, and we are honoured to support an institution that continues to create opportunities and hope for children and young adults with autism and their families,” she said.
