Panama striker Ismael Diaz has issued a strong statement ahead of his country’s opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting that his side fears no opponent and is determined to make history on football’s biggest stage.

The 29-year-old forward expressed confidence in Panama’s ability to compete against any team as they prepare to face Ghana in their Group L opener in Toronto.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Diaz highlighted the hunger and growing belief within the squad as key factors behind Panama’s ambitions at the tournament.

“We are very hungry,” Diaz said, adding that the team has developed the confidence needed to challenge stronger nations.

“We’re really not afraid of anyone, and we want to compete against whoever comes up against us. That’s been important; we’re starting to believe it.”

Panama have been putting the finishing touches to their preparations at their base camp in New Tecumseth, Ontario, with tactical sessions and recovery work forming part of their schedule.

Diaz believes the entire squad shares the same determination to achieve success as they begin their World Cup journey against Ghana.
