Parliament has confirmed the arrest and detention of Mr Kwame Ohene Frimpong, the Independent Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Clerk to Parliament, Mr Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, said the Speaker of Parliament and the leadership of the House had been officially informed of the incident and were engaging Ghana’s Mission in The Hague for further details.

The statement noted that Parliament was closely monitoring the situation and assured the public that updates would be provided when more information becomes available.

Authorities have yet to disclose the circumstances surrounding Mr Frimpong’s detention or whether any charges have been filed against him. Ghana’s Mission in The Hague is expected to offer consular support as investigations continue.
