The Clerk to Parliament, Rev. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, has described the upcoming Third Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament as an important period for legislative work, with the national budget and government’s economic policy expected to dominate proceedings.
Speaking at the Parliament Leaders’ Media Engagement on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Rev. Djietror said the meeting would set the tone for Parliament’s legislative activities in the coming weeks.
He noted that the eight-week meeting is expected to involve a considerable amount of legislative business, financial matters and key national policy discussions.
He identified the consideration of the national budget and the government’s economic policy as some of the major issues expected to engage the attention of Members of Parliament.
Rev. Djietror also disclosed that the House would consider and pass priority bills, examine relevant statutory instruments and undertake other financial business traditionally associated with the final meeting of a parliamentary year.
Reflecting on activities during the parliamentary recess, he revealed that several select and standing committees had undertaken public hearings, stakeholder consultations and oversight visits.
According to him, these activities form part of Parliament’s efforts to promote transparency, accountability and effective oversight.
He further indicated that efforts to strengthen the capacity of the Parliamentary Service, particularly in legislative research and technical support, had continued to ensure that Members of Parliament receive the necessary assistance during plenary debates and committee deliberations.
The Clerk also commended the media for their continued partnership with Parliament, describing their role as an important link between the Legislature and the Ghanaian public.
He said through the media, parliamentary debates, proceedings and decisions are communicated to citizens, helping to keep the public informed about the work of the House.
Rev. Djietror expressed appreciation to journalists for their contribution to promoting public understanding of Parliament’s activities and strengthening democratic accountability.
