Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, one half of the former music duo P-Square, has announced that he will now celebrate his birthday on 30 November, moving away from the long-associated 18 November date he shared with his twin brother, Paul Okoye.
The artiste, popularly known as Mr P, said the decision was personal and urged fans not to send him birthday messages or gifts on 18 November.
The announcement has attracted attention among fans who have followed P-Square’s influence on the African music scene for more than two decades. The duo, made up of Peter and Paul Okoye, became one of Afrobeats’ biggest acts, known for hits that helped shape the sound and popularity of Nigerian pop music across the continent.
Peter’s decision comes amid ongoing tensions within the Okoye family, involving his twin brother Paul and their elder brother Jude Okoye, who previously managed P-Square during the height of the group’s success. Following their reunion in 2021, the brothers’ relationship reportedly deteriorated again over disagreements surrounding management, finances and trust.
Although Peter did not directly connect the birthday change to the family dispute, many fans have viewed the move as a symbolic reflection of the continued distance between the once-close brothers. Peter has previously said he ended professional ties with his brothers in 2025, with the disagreements also attracting legal attention and public discussions.
