Chairperson and leader of the People’s National Party (PNP), Janet Asanaa Nabla, has issued a strong condemnation of recent violent attacks allegedly carried out by members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against several key state institutions in Ghana.
In a statement released on Wednesday, 11 December 12, 2024, the PNP described these acts of aggression, which reportedly targeted the Passport Office, District Assemblies, and other government establishments, as a direct threat to the country’s democratic framework.
The PNP accused the NDC of attempting to usurp control over state institutions without waiting for the official transition of power, suggesting that the party believes it has already secured victory in the recent elections. “These actions represent a blatant disregard for the orderly transition process that is fundamental to democratic governance,” she asserted.
Chairperson and Leader of the PNP, Janet Asana Nabla, emphasized that such lawlessness could lead to chaos reminiscent of a military regime. “State institutions are pillars of our democracy, and their independence must be safeguarded against political intimidation and violence,” she stated.
In her appeal to the NDC’s leadership, Nabla called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to take decisive action by urging his supporters to cease these reckless behaviors. “The President-elect must take responsibility and ensure that his party stops these actions that tarnish Ghana’s reputation on the global stage,” she asserted.
The PNP also urged security forces to act swiftly to arrest those responsible for these violent acts. “The law must be enforced to deter anyone seeking to destabilize our nation through violence and intimidation,” she added.
Additionally, the PNP appealed to various sectors of society,including the international community, civil society organizations, academia, religious bodies, and the media,to publicly condemn these violent incidents. “Silence in the face of such lawlessness is tantamount to complicity and sets a dangerous precedent for our nation,” she warned.
Nabla concluded by reaffirming the PNP’s commitment to peace, justice, and the rule of law, calling on all stakeholders to uphold the sanctity of state institutions and protect the democratic values that unify the nation.
