Police arrest driver with more than GH¢1 million hidden in fertiliser bags

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a commercial driver after finding more than GH¢1 million in cash concealed in fertiliser bags on a Ford Transit bus.

According to a statement from the Volta Regional Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, the incident occurred on June 3, 2025 at around 4:45 p.m. The bus was intercepted at a checkpoint in Juapong while en route to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

Police said the money—made up of one cedi notes and coins—was packed into 68 fertiliser bags, amounting to a total of GH¢1,021,700.

The driver, identified as Edward Ansah, told officers during interrogation that he had been hired by a man in Kumasi to transport the money from Ho in the Volta Region.

Mr Ansah is currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.

Police say further updates will be provided in due course.
