The Asokwa District Court in the Ashanti Region has remanded a 17-year-old Tricycle Rider also known as ‘Pragia’ into Police custody for allegedly defiling a 13 year old girl at Esreso in the Asokwa Municipality.
He is to be brought before the court again on the 17th of this month.
The complainant, Wasselatu Alhaji, is an Accounts Officer, at TI Ahmadiyya SHS, and Guardian of the victim.
Presenting the facts of the case to the Court presided over by Kwaku Baah Frempong, Police Chief Inspector Mariama Yakubu said, on October 30, 2023, the victim was sent by her guardian Wassalatu Alhaji around 6:30 pm to buy her sachet water from a nearby shop and on her way, she met the tricycle rider who offered her a ride.
The rider then drove the victim to his house and forcibly had sex with her. Chief Inspector Yakubu said on reaching home about an hour and half later, her guardian questioned the victim, why she had kept long in bringing the sachet water and she narrated her ordeal.
The case was then reported to the Police. After undergoing medical examination and treatment, it was confirmed that the victim had been defiled. The tricycle rider was arrested and in his cautioned statement, admitted committing the offence.
