The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will deliver his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament on Friday, January 3, 2025, ahead of the dissolution of the 8th Parliament.
This address, required by Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, will serve as the President’s final report on the nation’s progress before he leaves office.
The 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic will officially end on Monday, January 6, 2025. On the same day, the 9th Parliament will meet at 11:00 PM to elect a Speaker and two Deputy Speakers.
According to a statement from the Parliamentary Service, the Speaker-elect and the newly chosen Members of Parliament will be sworn in at midnight, officially beginning the next parliamentary term.
Parliament has advised media personnel to secure accreditation in advance to ensure smooth coverage of these important events.
