President-elect John Dramani Mahama has officially nominated Alban Bagbin as the Speaker for Ghana’s 9th Parliament. The announcement, made on January 5, 2025, followed consultations and mutual agreement between the National Executive and Parliamentary Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Bagbin, who previously served as the Speaker of the 8th Parliament, brings extensive experience to the position. His long parliamentary career includes roles such as Minority and Majority Leader, and he has represented Nadowli as a Member of Parliament. His deep expertise in parliamentary affairs and commitment to national service were key reasons for his nomination.
In a statement from the Transition Team’s Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, President-elect Mahama expressed full confidence in Bagbin’s ability to foster unity and ensure effective oversight of Parliament.
