In a surprising turn of events, Bournemouth emerged victorious over Liverpool, climbing out of the relegation zone and dealing a blow to Liverpool’s hopes of qualifying for the next season’s Champions League.

Liverpool, who had been riding high after their 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United last week, were brought back down to earth with a lacklustre performance.

Philip Billing opened the scoring for Bournemouth with a well-placed shot from eight yards, taking advantage of poor defending from Liverpool.

Virgil van Dijk came close to equalising for Liverpool with a header that was cleared off the line, and substitute Diogo Jota was denied by a fine save from Bournemouth’s goalkeeper Neto.

Liverpool was given a lifeline when Adam Smith handled Diogo Jota’s header in the box, earning Liverpool a penalty. However, Mohamed Salah, who became Liverpool’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League last week with 129 goals, missed the penalty, much to the delight of Bournemouth’s fans.

Despite Liverpool’s efforts to find an equaliser, Bournemouth held on to secure a vital three points, lifting them out of the relegation zone. Liverpool, on the other hand, missed the opportunity to go fourth in the Premier League table for the first time this season.
