Black Stars defender Marvin Senaya has successfully undergone surgery to repair the hamstring injury he sustained during Ghana’s FIFA World Cup Round of 32 defeat to Colombia.

The 25-year-old right-back suffered the injury in the 13th minute of the match in Kansas City while chasing a loose ball. Although he initially attempted to continue, he was eventually substituted after being unable to shake off the injury. Subsequent medical scans confirmed significant hamstring damage, ruling him out for an extended period.

Senaya was one of Ghana’s standout performers at the 2026 World Cup, starting all four matches and playing every minute of the group stage. His impressive displays helped the Black Stars record clean sheets against Panama and England before his campaign was cut short in the knockout stage.

The defender confirmed on social media that the operation was successful and thanked supporters for their encouragement, adding that he is determined to recover and return stronger.

Senaya made 20 appearances for French club AJ Auxerre during the 2025/26 season, scoring once. His injury is expected to sideline him for the start of the 2026/27 campaign, dealing a significant blow to the Ligue 1 outfit.
