American singer Sabrina Carpenter has been granted a temporary restraining order after a series of what she described as “deeply alarming” incidents involving a man who allegedly targeted her home in Los Angeles.
Court documents reviewed by CBS, the BBC’s US partner, state that Carpenter is seeking a full court order against William Applegate over repeated alleged attempts to access her property.
According to her legal filing, the singer claims Applegate tried to force entry into her home last month and returned on multiple occasions, including incidents where he allegedly refused to leave despite being confronted by security. Carpenter said the situation left her in “significant and ongoing fear,” adding that the behaviour caused her “severe and ongoing emotional distress.”
In one account described in court documents, Applegate allegedly approached the front door after trespassing onto a neighbour’s property, attempted to open it, rang the doorbell and refused to leave until police arrived. Carpenter also claims he later returned within 24 hours and was seen loitering outside her residence for several hours before coming back again the following day.
A judge has now issued a temporary order requiring Applegate to stay at least 100 yards away from Carpenter, her home, vehicle and workplace, as well as other residents at the property. A further hearing is scheduled for 17 June, while he is also due to appear in criminal court the following day over a separate trespassing arrest, with authorities describing signs of what they believe to be a “fixated, obsessional” pattern of behaviour.
