Skeletons Exposed As Grave Looters Invade Sefwi Asawinso Cemetery | General News

Nananom, Residents of Sefwi Asawinso and its environs in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region are living in fear and panic following reports of grave looting in the area.

UTV News Western North Regional Correspondent Kwabena Dickson who visited the cemetery confirmed that several graves have been destroyed and looted at the cemetery.

According to Kwabena Dickson who visited the cemetery, some body parts have also gone missing.

This has heightened the perception that the heinous crime is being committed for ritual purposes.

The situation according to UTV News has compelled traditional leaders at Sefwi Asawinso led by the Queen Mother Nana Ama Akyine, Abusuapanin Kofi Nkrumah and Okyeame Gyasi the Linguist to pour libation to pacify the gods and warn the perpetrators to desist from the act or face the wrath of the gods and Nananom when arrested.

The Queen Mother, Nana Ama Akyineyie who visited the cemetery with her elders opined that they have counted over 30 graves that have been looted but do not know the perpetrators.

According to the Queen mother, they are putting measures to stop the criminals from further causing damage at the cemetery.

“We have not seen or hear such an abomination before in this town, how can you go and dig and loot skeletons of a dead person but not thinking of your end, why have they left the skull here but not taking it along with what they looted from here?” she quizzed?

“We are going to deploy security to monitor the place and ward off the miscreants, and anybody who will be caught will face the full rigorous of the law,” he told UTV’s Kwabena Dickson.

Abusuapanin Kofi Nkrumah who expressed his shock and surprise about the strange development said they are not going to sit there unconcerned for this to continue in Sefwi Asawinso. 

Assembly member for Sefwi line Electoral area, Mr Adu Stephen who is not happy about the situation hinted that, he will alert the Sefwi Asawinso District police commander and he is optimistic with the support from them, they will prevent any future occurrences.
