Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has bemoaned the laxity in the enforcement of laws in the country.
He said Parliament has done its best in ensuring the protection of the environment by passing laws geared towards sustaining biodiversity and mitigating climate change.
The non-application of these laws has given the country the reputation of being one of the worst when it comes to air pollution in the world. Mr. Bagbin made this known at this year’s Green Ghana Day.
He said the House’s commitment to the day made him suspend sitting on the Green Ghana Day so MPs can be in their Constituencies for the exercise.
The Acting Greater Accra Regional Manager of the Forestry Commission, George Agbenowoshi said delays in prosecuting forest offences at the courts, as well as encroachment of forest reserves and illegal mining, have been some challenges facing the Commission.
