Ghanaian musician Ice King of Aburi has taken a swipe at Medikal for publicly campaigning for the coveted Artiste of the Year award at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs), insisting that such efforts rarely lead to success.
Speaking on the issue, Ice King of Aburi said musicians who aggressively solicit votes or campaign on social media for the topmost award often end up missing out on the honour.
“Aside Medikal, I don’t think any of the artistes nominated even know the shortcode for votes. Apart from Medikal, none of the artistes have posted for votes. Maybe now that I’ve said it, they will.
“You don’t need to campaign for Artiste of the Year. Most of the artistes who go all out campaigning for it don’t win, while those who don’t even care about the award often win,” Ice King of Aburi said.
His comments were directed at rapper Medikal, whom he urged to halt his ongoing social media push for the award and instead allow his work and impact to speak for him.

Ice King of Aburi also shared his thoughts on the possible outcome of this year’s awards, suggesting that even some of Ghana’s leading music heavyweights may not take home the ultimate prize.
He said he would be surprised if Sarkodie, Black Sherif, or Stonebwoy emerged as winners of the Artiste of the Year accolade at the upcoming ceremony.
The Artiste of the Year category remains the most prestigious prize at the TGMAs, often sparking intense debate among fans and industry observers in the lead-up to the awards night.
Ice King of Aburi, who has been involved in a feud with rapper Sarkodie, is set to release another diss track titled “1 Trillion Acres” on May 1, 2026, together with visuals.
