Ghanaian radio presenter Nana Romeo has expressed his views on the recent #StopGalamsey protest, calling it a “waste of time.”
Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz on Saturday, he criticized the conduct of the protesters, stating, “You went to the police and informed them about your intention to demonstrate. You even had specific routes you wanted to take, but the police deemed those routes inappropriate and provided approved alternatives. However, on the day of the protest, you insisted on taking the unapproved routes.”
He went on to highlight the irony in the situation, saying, “As citizens who recognize that things aren’t going well in the country and who claim to want order restored, how can you disregard the police’s directives? It shows a lack of discipline. Who says there’s a specific path or location that guarantees the success of a protest? It’s about making your voice heard, not about where you stand.”
Nana Romeo also drew comparisons to historic protests around the world, mentioning figures like Rosa Parks, Mahatma Gandhi, and the George Floyd protests, pointing out how these movements brought about change without resorting to violence.
“Protests can bring results, but if you don’t follow the law, what are you really trying to achieve?” he asked, further adding, “The leaders of this protest are not fit for the role. The entire exercise was a waste of time and energy and will not yield any results.”
