During a recent community engagement with members of the NPP party, some frustrated constituents from the Suhum Municipality expressed their dissatisfaction with their Member of Parliament, Hon. Frank Asiedu Bekoe. As a symbolic gesture of protest, they presented him with a container of contaminated water alongside bread, highlighting the ongoing issue of water pollution in the area.

The residents’ frustration centred around the persistent pollution of their water sources, an issue that has been exacerbated by illegal mining activities in the region.

When asked by the aggrieved citizens about his plans to address the dire water situation, Hon. Frank Asiedu Bekoe responded by discussing his intention to build a turf for the community. However, his response was met with scepticism, as many expected concrete measures aimed at tackling the water contamination directly.

Rowland Walker, a journalist present at the event, pressed further, questioning the MP on how he planned to resolve the pressing water crisis affecting his constituents, particularly in light of the environmental damage caused by illegal mining.

In response, Hon. Frank Asiedu Bekoe distanced himself from any involvement in illegal mining, insisting that he has consistently condemned such activities. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the people of Suhum receive the resources they need, including access to clean water.

Despite his reassurances, the constituents remained visibly frustrated, as they had yet to see meaningful action taken to combat the pollution threatening their health and well-being.

While Hon. Frank may have outlined a broader vision for the municipality, the residents made it clear that resolving the water contamination issue was their immediate concern, hoping for swift and decisive action from their representative.
