A suspected armed robber crashed a taxi he had allegedly attempted to steal after ramming it into some shops while trying to escape a mob at the Ejisu traffic junction.

According to a witness, the suspect got into the car, a Toyota Corolla with registration number GT 1557-16, and attacked the driver, demanding he hand over the vehicle.

As he tried to get away, a group of men surrounded the car and tried to pull him out, but he reversed sharply, ploughing into the shops nearby before crashing the vehicle.

He managed to flee on foot, taking refuge inside a mobile money container as members of the public gave chase.

Police officers arrived at the scene in time and rescued the suspect from the mob before he could sustain further harm. He has since been taken into custody.

There have been no reports of injuries or casualties from the crash so far, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
