Legendary Hiplife artiste Kwame Nsiah-Apau, known by his stage names Okyeame Kwame and Rap Dacta, explained the inspiration behind the “Rap Dacta” nickname.

Speaking as a special guest on The Chat -an entertainment talk show hosted by Ekow Koomson on Channel One TV, Okyeame Kwame revealed that he got his popular name “Rap Docta” from a concert where he performed alongside Reggie Rockstone in New York.

According to him after Reggie Rockstone’s performance, although the audience loved his rap, they didn’t fully understand it.

He decided to explain the rap, and during this explanation, a Jamaican man remarked that he explained it like a doctor.

“So during our tour in the US, we were booked to perform at a Jamaican Club after Reggie Rockstone’s performance where he performed his song ‘Sweetie Sweetie’. They all loved it but never understood the rap. So a man asked me to explain Reggie’s rap – after explaining to him – he said I explained it like a doctor teaching, and So Reggie Rockstone started teasing me so I decided to use it”. He explained.

He explained extensively that he adopted the name “Rap Docta,” in 2024 when he began as a solo artiste which has since become a household name in the Ghanaian showbiz scene.

The rap legend won the Ghana Music Awards Group of the Year and Hiplife Song of the Year in 2000 with his then-group, Akyeame.

However, the group split and the Rap Dacta never gave up but returned stronger as a solo artiste to win the Artiste of the Year award in 2009.
