Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has urged Ghanaians to remain optimistic about the future of the Black Stars and Ghana football despite the team’s exit at the Round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the campaign as a foundation for greater success in the years ahead.
In a message addressed to Ghanaians and supporters of the national team across the globe, Mr Simeon-Okraku expressed profound appreciation for the unwavering support shown to the Black Stars throughout their World Cup journey, while acknowledging the disappointment surrounding their elimination from the tournament.
“Our journey ended at the Round of 32 of the tournament, and as disappointing as this is for all of us, we are immensely proud of the team for the courage and passion they portrayed in representing the country,” the GFA President stated.
A Campaign That Defied Expectations
Reflecting on Ghana’s performance, Mr Simeon-Okraku noted that the Black Stars had exceeded the expectations of many football observers who questioned the team’s ability to compete on football’s biggest stage before the tournament began.
According to him, the team’s qualification from a challenging group into the knockout stages demonstrated resilience, determination and character that should inspire pride among Ghanaians.
“Before the start of the 2026 World Cup, many doubted the team’s ability to compete at this global stage. Yet, the Black Stars responded by qualifying from a difficult group into the Round of 32. That resilience should make every Ghanaian and our supporters proud,” he said.
Although Ghana fell short of progressing further in the competition, the GFA President maintained that the campaign should not be viewed solely through the lens of disappointment but rather as an important milestone in the nation’s football development.
Valuable Lessons for the Future
Mr Simeon-Okraku stressed that football is built on continuous growth, where both victories and setbacks contribute to long-term success.
He said the experience gained by the players, coaching staff and technical team during the World Cup would serve as a valuable platform for future competitions.
“Football is a journey of both triumph and learning. Every challenge strengthens our resolve, and every experience prepares us for future opportunities.
The technical team and players have learned invaluable lessons from this 2026 World Cup campaign that will make the Black Stars stronger to compete for future laurels,” he noted.
The GFA President reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to building a stronger and more balanced national team capable of competing consistently at the highest level of international football.
Appreciation to Government, Sponsors and Supporters
Mr Simeon-Okraku used the opportunity to acknowledge the collective effort that supported Ghana’s World Cup campaign, expressing gratitude to the Government of Ghana, corporate sponsors and football partners whose financial and logistical support contributed significantly to the team’s participation.
He also paid tribute to the players, coaching staff, technical team and all support personnel for their dedication, professionalism and sacrifice in representing the nation.
“I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the Government of Ghana for their unwavering support, and to all our sponsors and partners whose contributions made this journey possible.
Above all, I would like to thank the Head Coach, Players, Technical Team and the supporting staff for their dedication, commitment and sacrifice for the nation,” he said.
The GFA President reserved special appreciation for Ghanaian football supporters at home and abroad, describing their encouragement as a source of motivation throughout the tournament.
“We also thank the wonderful people of Ghana and our supporters around the world for your faith in the team. Your belief and support gave the Black Stars the strength to fight in every match,” he added.
Eyes on Continental and Global Success
Looking beyond the World Cup, Mr Simeon-Okraku outlined the Ghana Football Association’s vision of rebuilding and strengthening the Black Stars as they prepare for future international competitions.
He reaffirmed the Association’s determination to assemble a deeper and more competitive squad capable of returning to the Africa Cup of Nations as genuine title contenders while continuing to compete successfully on the global stage.
“The future of Ghana football remains bright. The Football Association is committed to building a stronger, deeper and balanced team that will return to the Africa Cup of Nations, challenge for continental glory, and reach even greater heights on the world stage,” he declared.

Concluding his message, the GFA President appealed to Ghanaians to remain united behind the Black Stars and avoid allowing disappointment to overshadow the progress achieved during the tournament.
He encouraged supporters to look ahead with renewed optimism and collective determination as Ghana begins preparations for future competitions.
“Let us not use this moment to dwell on the disappointment of the team’s inability to advance to the next round of the World Cup but forge ahead with renewed determination and oneness of purpose to build a stronger team for the future.”
