The stage play ‘The Saint in the Devil’s Shoes’ explores corruption as a major obstacle to Ghana’s development.

The play takes an unconventional approach, featuring a single actor who portrays the struggles of young graduates unable to find employment after national service.

Through this character, the story delves into frustration, despair, and the turn to betting and gambling as a coping mechanism.

It offers a powerful critique of systemic corruption, which benefits the wealthy at the expense of the underprivileged.

Speaking in an interview with Ghana Weekend on Friday April 18, after the play in Accra, Director of the play, Kobina Ansah  highlighted the deep-rooted issue, emphasising how it slows progress and affects the youth.

“Corruption has slowed our pace for development,” he added.

Mr Ansah further noted that “As they celebrate their 10th anniversary, the team embraced the challenge of a one-person show, and expressed satisfaction with the outcome.”

The solo actor Bern Khobby acknowledged the demanding nature of performing alone for two hours but appreciated the experience, seeing it as an important step in his career.

With its compelling narrative, the play sheds light on the harsh realities faced by Ghanaian youth and calls for urgent change in a society burdened by corruption.
