The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Major General William Agyapong, has paid glowing tribute to the late Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, and three gallant Ghana Air Force officers, saying their skills and dedication will leave a lasting impact on the Ghana Armed Forces’ training, maintenance, and operational doctrines.‎

‎Speaking at a final state funeral at the black star square on Friday August 15, 2025, Major General Agyapong described Dr. Omane Boamah’s short tenure as Minister for Defence as transformative, marked by innovation and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

He noted that Dr. Boamah spearheaded merit-based recruitment, addressed the accommodation deficit in the Armed Forces, revitalized the Defence Industries Holding Company Limited, and prioritized the welfare and healthcare of troops and veterans.‎

‎“He was not just a boss or leader; he was a role model and mentor. Though his passing has left us in shock, we take solace in the indelible mark he left on Ghana’s defence architecture and the lives he touched,” the CDS said.‎

‎He also praised Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, describing him as a highly skilled pilot with deep technical knowledge whose integration of flight safety protocols into operational planning enhanced mission success.‎

‎Flying Officer Twum Manaen Ampadu, commissioned in 2021, was also honoured for his adaptability, precision, and meticulous approach to mission planning. Major General Agyapong called him a dependable co-pilot and a promising future commander in air operations.‎

‎Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, an accomplished aircraft technician enlisted in 2011, was remembered for his engineering expertise, which was vital to the operational readiness of the Z-9 helicopter fleet. The CDS noted his commitment to airworthiness standards and mentorship of junior technicians.‎

‎“To their grieving families, I extend my deepest condolences. As the bugle sounds and the night holds in silence, we salute them, brave men who served with pride but fell with honor. They will be sorely missed but fondly remembered. May their souls rest in perfect peace,” Major General Agyapong said.
